She also will be co-convenor of the Symposium R 10: Effects of changing governance on the autonomy and control of higher education in Germany and the United Kingdom.

22.09.2016 – Dr. Bruno Broucker and Dr. Kurt de Wit (University of Leuven) will give a talk with the title "Higher Education for Public Value: orienting the post-NPM reform debate". In their talk, they will (1) identify the flaws of New Public Management as a paradigm for university-reform, (2) provide an understanding of public value for higher education and (3) present a new model for reform, with inclusion of the concept of public value. Derived from this model, they will formulate an agenda for future research.

On Wednesday, June 1, 2016, Prof. Ramirez will identify and critically discuss three trends in the intensification of the socially embedded university: 1) increased entrepreneurship linked to institutional advancement goals, 2) increasingly empowered individuals linked to ideas about individual rights and human potential, and 3) increased legalization as cultural adaptation to increased entrepreneurship and empowered individuals.

"Organizing Academic Work in Higher Education" provides a conceptual frame of organizational change in universities in the context of New Public Management reforms and links it to the core activities of teaching and learning.

On Wednesday, April 20th 2016, Prof. Dr. Daniel Pittich will give a talk with the title "Kompetenzorientiertes Lehren und Lernen in der Hochschullehre – Theoretische Ausgangspunkte und praktische Umsetzung". Taking dispositional approaches to competency-modeling as a starting point, Prof. Pittich will present an outline of student-centred teaching methods and discuss their possible implementation in higher education settings.

In the talk, Prof. Sigrid Quack, Professor for Sociology with a focus on Comparative Sociology (University of Duisburg-Essen) and Yasemin Ciftci, BA, will present a pilot study on "Cross-border careers in environmental NGOs". They examine the emerging transnational labor markets for NGO staff through the lens of cross-border careers of individuals working for international NGOs.

In her talk, Ruth Müller (Assistant Professor for Science & Technology Policy at the Munich Center for Technology in Society (MCTS) at the TU München), will discuss the continuously accelerating working pace in academia and its implications for contents and formats of academic knowledge production on at least three levels: epistemic risk taking, collaboration behaviour and practices of supervision.
