German as a Foreign Language

Who has to take the test?

In German as a Foreign Language, placement tests are compulsory for the A1.2, A2, B1, B2 and C1 courses for all participants who have not already passed a qualifying test at the Department of Foreign Languages for the corresponding level.

A placement test is not necessary for the A1.1 course.

Location / Dates

The tests for the WiSe 2019/20 take place at the Department of Foreign Languages, Emil Figge Straße  61, room U11.

  • Monday, 23.09.2019 at 10:00 a.m.
  • Wednesday, 02.10.2019 at 10:00 a.m.
  • Wednesday, 02.10.2019 at 12:00 a.m.
Registration You do not have to register for the test in advance. Please pick one of the dates above and show up 15 minutes early (EF 61, room U11). Should you have any certificates (for example from the Goethe-Institute), please make sure to bring them with you.


The results will be communicated immediately after the test has been finished.

The placement test remains valid for two semesters: For the winter semester 2019/20 the current test results are valid as well as the results from the previous summer semester 2019.
